The closure was expected. Yet it was obvious how the community’s residents were suffering; Would the environments they grew up in be erased? Even the homes? This was not a community built on the idea of ”fly-in fly-out.” At most, there must have been close to a thousand people in Laisvall. In 1952, there were eleven nationalities here. Unlike Arjeplog, the main town 47 km away, this was a workplace and a community where ethnicities and ideas merged. Photo 2004 Maria Söderberg

Heritage in action: Legacies of industry in future making

The historical mines in Nasafjäll and Laisvall will be
some of the many themes of an international conference.
It will take place in Kiruna in August 2025.
I look forward to that!
